New York isn’t exactly the first destination you’d think of for a relaxing getaway. A girl’s getaway, definitely! So, what about a relaxing girl’s getaway? Can it be done in Manhattan? And let’s not forget that we’re not independently wealthy. A relaxing girl’s getaway in the city that never sleeps without breaking the bank…shnickies, now this is getting tricky. Since I just can’t get enough of NYC, I was determined to find a way to satisfy these three main objectives there on a weekend in July.
Where to Stay
Gansevoort Park - 420 Park Avenue South
Since NYC is scorching during the summer months, the first course of action was to find a swanky hotel with a rooftop pool which narrowed down our search pretty quickly. It all came down to the Gansevoort– their midtown property on Park Avenue and its original NYC location in the Meat Packing District. As much as I love to walk the uber-trendy neighbourhoods of Manhattan, I usually opt to stay a little more central ensuring we are equidistant to all of the ultra hip restaurants, clubs and shopping downtown and the museums, theatres and park uptown. Plus, I find the further uptown you go, the more spacious the hotel rooms. I was able to find a Double Deluxe room with two Queen beds at the Gansevoort Park Avenue for the weekend of July 8th for $310/night on Magellan Vacation’s newyorkcityluxuryhotels.com. (If you're splitting that four ways, that’s less than $80 a night per person!)
Relaxation factor: With super-keen and friendly staff waiting to help you at the drop of a hat and the most comfortable beds, pillows and slippers in town, the Gansevoort Park Hotel gets 5 out of 5 stars on the relaxation rating. *Tip: The rooftop pool is wonderfully relaxing during the day, but at about 5pm the after-work crowd likes to get their drink on in the adjoining bar and inevitably spills out onto the pool deck making it a little more club and a little less retreat.
Price factor: Booking through Magellan Vacations makes this luxury hotel an amazing deal. Magellan Vacations even contacted us a week after booking to say they found a cheaper rate and lowered the nightly rate from $310 to $285.
