Vegas is an overrated vacation spot, and is a complete waste of time unless you have bags of money. be prepared to drop $300 a day minimum if you plan to leave your hotel and do anything more than just walk around.

Crystal: I don't know what you did with your time but you must have expensive taste. I went to Vegas a few years ago and aside from the hotel ( and if you go you HAVE to stay on the strip ) I spent less than $1000. I went shopping, ate at nice places (even at our hotel "Treasure Island" more than a few times). There is a lot to see, a lot of free shows...Treasure Island has Sirens to see, The Mirage has the Volcano Show, Belagio has the beautiful water works show (and I could personally see that more than once) and other hotels have shows as well. I went for 4 nights 5 days and I had a blast WITHOUT spending a fortune. You can even drink free as long as you gamble....all you have to do is put an occasional coin in the machine and you are fine.

We go to Vegas every year for our annual family vacation with our two boys 6 and 11. We usually spend 7-11 days there. Vegas is expensive if you want it to be, but there are also great deals like outlet mall shopping, free attractions: Carneval at Rio, Botanical gardens and fountains at Bellaggio, volcano at the mirage, Sirens of TI and the list goes on. There is lots of reasonable priced attractions like the classic car show at the Imperial Palace, dolphins and Secret Garden at the Mirage, Shark Reef, Adventuredome at Circus Circus, Wax museum.....Some shows are expensive , but there is lots of good and cheap shows. V theatre at the Planet Hollywood hotel has 2 or more family and variety shows a day and they are under $50.00. Lots of other hotels offer daytime or early evening shows for under $30.00. You can also find good and reasonable priced restaurants right on the strip. You can read about our Vegas vacation at http://travelandadventurefamilystyle.blogspot.com

How can anyone say Vegas is boring. We seen The Hoover Dam (Amazing!) Red Rock Canyon, Volcano Show at The Mirage, Siren of Treasure Island, Water shoe at The Belagio all for free. The air is so exciting everyone is letting off some steam from being overworked & stressing about dialy life, it's a time to just forget. Viva Las Vegas Baby!!!!!

Just got back from Vegas. The Strip is spendy but there are so many sites to see and i barely saw any of them - bring some good walking shoes. Check out old Downtown. Cheap drinks, some $3 blackjack tables, and the Fremont light show is worth seeing at least once. Good buffets, stiff drinks, and lots o lights. Cant wait to go back.

My boyfriend and I booked our trip to Vegas for March 9th-March 13th through WestJet Vacations and got flight and hotel for only $650 each (from Ottawa). We are not big gamblers and are more about seeing the sights and taking in some shows, and there are TONS of free activities to do there!! We can't wait!!

you are so very right. I spend 3 weeks in Vegas and enjoyed every day with free entertainment. My money went to cheap eats (can you say buffet? with a free membership of a casino, you eat even cheaper), cheap transportation (my own car -free parking), and cheap accomodation (my RV). There is the red rock national park, aquariums, galleries, Fremontstreet, Neon display in old town, first Friday festival, Rio's free show, Pallazo's free show, Bellagio's chocolatier fountain and water fountain, Circus-Circus free shows, The Valley of Fire State Park, many hiking trails in Henderson and on the day before the Nascar races, a huge parade down the boulevard. I could go on.....

Las Vegas will never be the same since becoming a family destination. It is expensive and offers little for your money compared to pre- family years. It was created originally as an adult entertainment city with a bang for your buck and not the baby sitting capital of North America it has become. Go to Disney if you want a family vacation.

Vegas is the best! You can do a ton of things and not spend a lot unless you want to. We went to Red Rocks....walked the strip....went to old Vegas and caught the amazing show 'in the sky'. Walking down Las Vegas blvd with a buck heiny is the ultimate. You want to kick it up a notch? Have a drink and then dinner at Paris...Can't wait to go back..

Went there last year, did a daily routine of sit through an hour timeshare presentation(breakfast), got the freebie for listening(quite often a show with supper, or gift certificates for a certain hotel chain), walk around rest of day seeing sites, get ready for the free supper and show (which can often be upgraded at box office for cheap), walk around after the show and check out night life. As for expensive shows some are but if lucky you can get some cheap tickets the day of the event at a couple of "tickets tonite" places , and once again be upgraded at box office to better seats for cheap at the box office. Yes Vegas can be expensive but with a little planning and looking around you can find some very good deals on stuff.

Vegaas is WONDERFUL and you CAN definately do it on the cheap. You just have to plan a bit. There are a ton of restauants the can be done on the super cheap as well. Hotels, swimming, shopping (and no you don't HAVE to buy anything) the museums (get a good coupon book) and speak to someone in you hotel. They literally throw deals at you all day long. NOT a town for only the wealthy. I spent 4 days/3 nights, saw a Cirque du Soleil show, ate and drank my fill, saw museums, and shopped and only spent $500 Canadian. And that doesn't include all the free stuff on the strip.

My wife and I love Vegas.....been there twice and can't wait to go back. We always travel frugally and found Vegas to be right up our alley. The key is not to try and be someone you are not. Just be yourself and have a blast.

I love this place. Going back in May for my 4th time and still havn't run out of things to do. A must try is 'Ellis Island'. Its a little casino with a great restaurant and micro brewery. They feature a $6.99 Steak Dinner special, with beer. Can't beat it!
