Saba
The Netherlands might be a flat, green country in Western Europe, but its highest point is a volcano called Mount Scenery that looms over the Caribbean. Saba is a special municipality of Holland, where Dutch is the official language, even if most people communicate in English. Only 1500 people live on this island paradise, famed for having some of the best diving and marine life in the world. The volcanic landscape is unspoiled, with locals dedicated to preserving the island´s natural beauty. Climb the 1000 steps to the summit of Mount Scenery, hike one of the 18 botanical trails, wander amongst wooden villages, and when you leave, depart on the world´s shortest commercial runway, approved for only three models of planes! Robin is probably swinging in a hammock right now, perfectly poised between two coconut trees. You can wake him up at www.moderngonzo.com
