The Best Places to Spot Monsters
By Robin Esrock
Get set for an adventure to hunt and to capture those things that go bump in the night.
Do you remember when Halloween was scarier than the state of the economy? When monsters would refer to hairy man-eating beasts and not hedge fund bankers on Wall Street? To hearken back to those glory days of things that go bump in the night, here is a list of monsters waiting to be hunted, captured, and put on display in a lavish theatre, probably in chains that can’t contain their enormous strength and power.

Mongolia: Death Worm
In the vast expanse of the Gobi Desert, nomadic locals believe in the existence of a giant, disgusting, oozing red slug. Easy enough to run away from, except that this giant worm can spray sulphuric acid, killing you on the spot, and even take you out from a distance with an electrical charge. Think of the monster worms on Dune, only not as big, and resembling a fetid, swollen intestine with spikes on either end. Various expeditions and TV crews have hoped to capture the Death Worm, but have turned up empty handed.
