A Taste of the Planet

By Robin Esrock

Food has always been close to my heart, or more accurately my stomach, and in my travels around the world I’ve come across some interesting varieties.  Far from a foodie, and blessed with a constitution that’s more plastic than iron, I rarely get the opportunity to enjoy five star restaurants and delight in fine post-fusion pan-continental haute cuisine.  I do however join those who do at the local pub around the corner, after they’ve spent Burundi’s education budget on a slice of radish dribbled with a balsamic reduction over a microscopic curried pigeon leg.  Sometimes, everyone needs a burger and a beer.   But let’s sail forth to discover tasty and not-so-tasty treats, as foreign to our culinary experience as the countries themselves.
